Senior Systems Engineer and Project Manager
These projects were conducted as a part of the Harvey Mudd College Engineering Clinic.
Clinic Projects as a Team Member
September 1992 – May 1993. Northrop B2 Division. Team Leader. Develop a data acquisition system for a virtual reality environment database. This included extensive research into virtual reality theory and hardware, computer vision, and digital image processing.
September 1991 – May 1992. Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. Develop a space qualified centrifuge system with full electronic and mechanical controls and biological support for studying the effects of simulated gravity upon living cells.
September 1990 – May 1991. Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. Develop a technology demonstrator for viewing living cell reactions to micro-gravity. This involved: integrating and testing lasers, an optical system, a CCD camera, light intensifier, a mini 80386 PC, DAT drive, and SCSI interface. Design considerations included: size, weight, shock resistance, and micro-gravity operation.
January 1990 – May 1990. Hughes Simulation Systems. Develop a Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tool, using metrics to evaluate the structure of programs written in Requirements Oriented Modeling Language (ROML).
Clinic Projects as a Company Liaison
Upon my college graduation, I went on to work for one of the organizations that had previously sponsored engineering clinic projects that I had been on as a student. As a part of this employment, I was frequently tasked as the project liaison for new projects that these organizations sponsored. My role as a Liaison included helping to develop the idea and scope of work for the student team, frequent interaction with the student team and review of their progress, and working with the student team when they had completed the effort to present their findings to the sponsor.
